I'm running for School Board in Oakland

I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while. The district that provided me with an education, where our sons Justin and Nate started their educations, and where I taught during my Teach For America corps service needs some love.

There is deep systemic inequity in this district, and while some students have access to a high quality school, most do not. That must change, and the OUSD school board needs to act quickly, creatively, and with discipline to correct course. I am running to serve the students, their families, and the teachers of the city, and I will work with diligence to balance resources. I will fight to bring equity and improve the quality of the education experience in Oakland so that no child is deprived of a future with promise. And I will work to develop policies that help the district attract and retain teachers, and to recognize the value of those classroom leaders. Visit my campaign website, Mark For Oakland.

UPDATE: I did not win.
